Kitchen Appliance
Going appliance shopping was a little bit stressful for me. After all, you buy kitchen appliances so rarely that you don't know what to expect. What is it – every decade or so? I had had the same old toaster oven for more than 15 years, and it was starting to show its age.
It smoked, it did not get very hot, and it didn't dependably kick the toaster out – resulting in occasional bread fires. It wasn't the only kitchen appliance than was showing its age either. The refrigerator definitely had seen better days, I suspected that it bore the brunt of our high electricity bill. It was definitely time to do something about it.
We had already finished with kitchen remodeling. That had been the first priority. I've always been pretty thrifty, but enough is enough.
We needed a new kitchen granite counters, new shelves, new cabinets – the works. It had taken a while and cost a lot of money, but it was worth it. Our kitchen was beautiful, but all of our kitchen appliances were horribly outdated. They barely worked at all.
The first time we went into the kitchen appliance store, we were kind of blown away. My wife and I don't really go shopping for electronics that often. Every time you look at electronic appliances, they look so high tech. I guess I'm pretty old-fashioned.
I'd still barely adjusted to the LED displays, to say nothing of computers. So when I saw all of the kitchen appliance features on offer, I was pretty surprised.
For example, I was amazed that the modern refrigerators can make ice themselves. The clerk politely told me that they had had this kitchen appliance technology out for years, but I was still pretty impressed by it.
Built-in water filters, energy saving features, and rolling casters were some of the other improvements in refrigerator design since I bought my old model. They were also just so quiet! Our fridge growled all night, but these new ones were almost silent.
We had made up our minds to buy only one kitchen appliance at a time. That way, the financial burden would not be too great. Nevertheless, it was difficult for us decide on which one. We wanted to have a working toaster oven, after all, but we needed a new fridge bad.
Fortunately, there was a cheap appliance sale where we were able to buy a toaster for next to nothing. The refrigerator, on the other hand, cost us quite a bit. Still, it was worth it.

About Kitchen Curtains
It may seem like a silly thing, but it always have problems when I want to buy kitchen curtains. The kitchen in every single place I have lived in has been a place where I love to be, even though my current one is too small to spend any time in. The windows in each kitchen have always been small, and therefore, the kitchen curtains that I choose had to be small as well. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I can never find curtains that I love.
I have spent more time than necessary looking for kitchen curtains. I find this to be utterly ridiculous but it is very true. I have searched high and low for the perfect set of kitchen curtains, and I have yet to find anything that I like. It should be a simple matter of choosing a color or pattern that will match what is in my kitchen, but I have not found anything that appeals to me. If I’m going to look at something everyday, I wanted to be something that I will enjoy. I have a hard time finding curtains and drapes for the rest of my house, but nothing is more frustrating than trying to find them for the kitchen.
I currently have kitchen curtains, but I do not like them very much. They are one solid color, and I was hoping to find something with a pattern. I guess it’s a stupid thing to complain about, but I feel glum every time I look at them. This is not just a problem for me either. I have noticed that my mother is continually changing her kitchen curtains because she cannot seem to find anything that she likes. Granted, my mother spent half of her life in her kitchen, so it makes sense that she is never satisfied.
Even know I am not much of a seamstress, I may have to give in and make my own kitchen curtains. Though I know these are famous last words, it cannot be that hard right? I know I can find a piece of material that I like, because I have seen many in a craft store that I had thought would make great kitchen curtains. If I don’t find something soon, I’m going to have to give in and sew. It’s not that I don’t like to so, it’s that I don’t have a sewing machine. This means my sewing will be done by hand. In the end, my kitchen curtains made end up looking like pillowcases, but at least they will be the pattern I want.

What will be my kitchen remodeling costs?
My husband and I lived out in the country on twenty acres of land. Our home was twelve years old when we bought it. We bought it in a drought year and unfortunately the next years when the rains came we discovered there were water issues in the crawl space basement.
After getting several opinions we decided that the best ting to do was to raise the house and put a full basement underneath it, otherwise we were going to have dry rot throughout the entire house.
With the full basement our three bedroom two bathroom home would now have the potential for three additional bedrooms, another bath as well as a family room. We raised the house and added the basement.
We decided that with a house the size we now had it would be a good investment to redo the kitchen area as a selling point. We already had the expense of adding the basement, but we checked into kitchen remodeling costs. We had a contractor come out to look at our home.
He looked through the new opened basement, and agreed that if we were going to sell soon it would be best to upgrade the kitchen and let the new owners create what they wanted in the basement level, especially when we did not need the added room.
We gave him a brief description of what we wanted and asked him to give us an estimate of the kitchen remodeling costs.
He took measurements and photos as well as our wishes and came up with two estimates. One was a great deal higher than the other because he figured in all new cabinets. The lower estimate used our existing cabinets with new fronts.
The kitchen remodeling costs were still higher than what we wanted to invest. He suggested that we could save a great deal of money if we did the demolition ourselves. He also suggested painting the cabinets and putting on new hardware.
There was paneling in the kitchen and informal dining area and a dropped ceiling. We tore out the ceiling and the paneling. We went and pick-up the sheet rock for the new walls and ceilings and had a neighbor boy help us unload it. We then learned how to paint wood cabinets from a do it yourself home store.
We hired a person to tape and spray the sheet rocking once we had it hung. The project took us three months, but the final results were wonderful and our kitchen remodeling costs were under a thousand dollars. It was a great savings, plus we had the satisfaction of doing it ourselves.
